Aboriginal Procurement

Governments across Australia are committed to Aboriginal participation because it’s not just the right thing to do — it builds stronger projects and stronger communities. Inclusion of Aboriginal people in infrastructure and procurement drives economic opportunity, supports reconciliation, and ensures development respects culture and Country.

Through policies like the Indigenous Procurement Policy and Social Procurement Frameworks, governments are turning intention into action — setting targets for Indigenous employment, partnerships, and business engagement. It’s about making real change, embedding equity into every contract, and creating pathways for lasting impact. Aboriginal participation isn’t a box to tick — it’s a foundation for building a better future.

Government Indigenous Procurement Policy

For Government

Under the NSW Aboriginal Procurement Policy (APP), government agencies are encouraged to engage Aboriginal businesses as a way to foster economic inclusion, build community capability, and deliver culturally respectful outcomes. A key feature of the policy is the ability for agencies to directly negotiate with certified Aboriginal businesses for contracts up to $250,000 — even when prequalification panels exist. This creates a fast, flexible, and compliant procurement pathway that supports stronger partnerships and delivers real impact.

Wayma is a Supply Nation registered and Aboriginal-owned business, meeting all eligibility requirements for engagement under the APP. Beyond compliance, we bring deep expertise in infrastructure, commercial advisory, and governance — delivered in a culturally safe and inclusive way. Working with Wayma allows agencies to meet procurement targets while building trust, strengthening relationships, and delivering projects that reflect and respect the communities they serve.

NSW Aboriginal Procurement Policy

For Contractors

Aboriginal participation applies through employment targets, use of Aboriginal-owned businesses, cultural heritage management, and community engagement. It’s woven into procurement frameworks like the NSW Aboriginal Procurement Policy, the VIC Social Procurement Framework, and federal Indigenous Procurement Policy — all of which are being more rigorously applied in major projects.

Wayma helps contractors meet and exceed these expectations. As a Supply Nation registered, Aboriginal-owned business, we offer project delivery, commercial, and governance support through a culturally safe lens. We don’t just help you comply — we help embed Aboriginal participation meaningfully into how you deliver, creating better social outcomes and helping you build trust with clients and communities.
